Safety, security... stupidity?

It's terrible Sadam is dead, the US is completely evil, we need to pull out of Iraq yesterday - are you people mad? Do you not understand how the world works?

Let me address just a few things.

Sadam ordered the execution of countless people on far lesser charges. I agree that his own death runs the risk of putting him in the 'martyr' camp, but while he lives there's always the hope of escape/rescue and his followers still have someone to rally around. I think his death is the best for all considered. Do people not realize this was a truly evil, bad person?

But, you say, there were no weapons of mass destruction found! Okay, two points there. Sadam had used chemical weapons. Guess what? Those were banned, so... yes, he had some. Secondly, consider this scenario:

You're living at home. Your Mom comes up to you and says, 'I'm going to clean out your room the weekend after next, okay?' Now, in two weeks, is your stash of drugs or cigarettes or alcohol or porn or whatever (or all of the above) still in your room? Or have you asked your buddy to hold on to them? Is she going to find 'proof' of your... predilections?

Sadam was evil, not stupid. We gave him plenty of warning to move things out of his country. And it would have been easy for him to do so.

And for all of you that say that if we hadn't gotten involved it would have been better, I tell you this: if you think that they would have left us alone, you have your head up your ass. Please leave it there until you suffocate and die, okay? We've now gone five years - FIVE YEARS - without an attack on this soil. Do you think that's a coincidence? Do you honestly believe that if we'd turned the other cheek after 9/11 that we'd have enjoyed this peace and security?

Give me a break, people. You're looking at an unspeakably bad situation from your cozy armchair and criticising things you don't fully understand. The news media doesn't tell you the whole story, and what they do tell you they slant whatever way they want to. You're living in a country that hasn't been invaded in hundreds of years, and you have the cocooned sense of security that, evidently, leads to stupidity.

And, finally, if this is such a big, bad, evil country and you hate it.... leave. Please, just get out. You won't be missed.
